Takeshi Nakazato from the Myougi Night Kids challenges the AE86 to a downhill fight after seeing Takumi Fujiwara's Toyota AE86 and Keisuke Takahashi's Mazda RX7 compete in a race. Although Nakazato's Nissan Skyline GT-R utterly outperforms the AE86, he is told he will never defeat Takumi, which infuriates him. Nakazato is determined to overcome the AE86 in grip racing because he thinks it is far superior to flashy drift racing and wants to show everyone that he is the better driver. Takumi is unwilling to take part in the challenge and opts not to compete, claiming that he is by no means a racer due to Itsuki Takeuchi's hurried acceptance of the match on his behalf. Takumi's boss is watching the situation and teases him into consent. Takumi discovers that his father has driven the AE86 himself when he goes back to the house to fetch the car. Takumi starts to get an increasing need to race as he waits for his father's arrival.
