The action of the story occurs just before Chise started working as an auditor at the academy and before Cartaphilus took a nap. In the middle of everyday life, Spriggan rides up to the mansion on a spooky horse with the words, "The appearance of the ghost hunting association is unusual this time." Gabriel, a regular boy who had recently moved from London, was bored of his environment of saying goodbye to friends, being in a strange place, and everything else. Elias and his friends help Chise get ready for the academy. In an effort to kill his ennui, he chose to chase after a purple smoke while sitting by the window and looking out at the world beyond. The boy's world starts to collide with the wizards' world, even though it shouldn't.
