The use of technology is pervasive in the year 2020. There is a single global network that connects all digital devices and transports data. Fifth-grader Taichi Yagami is ready for summer camp when odd happenings begin in Tokyo; certain electronic systems have started going haywire. Unbeknownst to humans, this network has become home to life forms known as "Digimon." He hurries to the neighboring station when he learns that his mother and sister are stranded on an unstoppable train. Taichi is abruptly taken to a different planet where he encounters the odd monster Agumon, who for some reason already knows his name. Additionally, Taichi is given a bizarre gadget known as a "Digivice," which enables him to interact with the non-digital world. Taichi finds himself in the Digimon with virus-like characteristics, "Network," are assaulting Tokyo's electronic system maintenance facilities. Taichi and his new ally Agumon must put a stop to these cyberattacks before the mischievous Digimon threaten the entire globe.
